Description

This Brown Butter Toffee Bread Pudding is a decadent dessert that combines the nutty aroma of brown butter with the rich sweetness of toffee. Each bite offers a creamy, custard-like texture, complemented by the warm, caramelized notes of toffee that melt in your mouth.

Ingredients

  • Bread: 8 cups of day-old brioche or challah, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Custard: 4 large eggs, 2 cups whole milk, 1 cup heavy cream, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Brown Butter: 1 cup unsalted butter
  • Toffee: 1 cup toffee bits or chopped toffee bars

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat, stirring frequently until it turns golden brown and has a nutty aroma, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  4. Slowly pour the brown butter into the custard mixture, whisking continuously.
  5. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer the bread cubes and sprinkle the toffee bits evenly over the top.
  6. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and let it soak for 30 minutes, pressing down occasionally to ensure all bread is submerged.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • This bread pudding can be made a day in advance; simply cover and refrigerate before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • For a nutty flavor, consider adding chopped pecans or walnuts.
  • For a chocolate twist, mix in chocolate chips along with the toffee bits.
