Description

This Butter Pecan Praline Poke Cake is a decadent dessert that combines the rich, buttery flavor of pecans with a moist, fluffy cake soaked in a creamy praline sauce. Each bite offers a delightful crunch from the toasted pecans, balanced by the smoothness of the cake and the sweet, caramel-like notes of the praline.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Cake:
    • 1 box yellow cake mix
    • 3 large eggs
    • 1 cup water
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • Praline Sauce:
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
    • 1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
  • Frosting:
    • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
    • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  4. While the cake is baking, prepare the praline sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and heavy cream, bringing it to a gentle boil.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the toasted pecans.
  6. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Poke holes all over the top of the cake using a fork.
  7. Pour the warm praline sauce over the cake, allowing it to soak in. Let the cake cool completely.
  8. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Spread the whipped cream over the cooled cake.
  9. Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator for optimal flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • For a nut-free version, you can omit the pecans and use a different topping like chocolate shavings.
