Description
This Butter Pecan Praline Poke Cake is a decadent dessert that combines the rich, buttery flavor of pecans with a moist, fluffy cake soaked in a creamy praline sauce. Each bite offers a delightful crunch from the toasted pecans, balanced by the smoothness of the cake and the sweet, caramel-like notes of the praline.
Ingredients
Scale
- Cake:
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- Praline Sauce:
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
- Frosting:
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil. Mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the praline sauce by melting the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and heavy cream, bringing it to a gentle boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the toasted pecans.
- Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Poke holes all over the top of the cake using a fork.
- Pour the warm praline sauce over the cake, allowing it to soak in. Let the cake cool completely.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Spread the whipped cream over the cooled cake.
- Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator for optimal flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- For a nut-free version, you can omit the pecans and use a different topping like chocolate shavings.
