- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- Black food coloring
- Edible fog (dry ice or fog machine)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
- In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the cupcake liners, filling them about 2/3 full.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cupcakes cool completely.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Add black food coloring to the whipped cream to achieve a spooky color.
- Frost the cooled cupcakes with the black whipped cream.
- Just before serving, add edible fog using dry ice or a fog machine for a haunting effect.
Notes
- Ensure the cupcakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
- Use gloves when handling dry ice for safety.
- Store any leftover cupcakes in an airtight container.
