- 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
- 3 large egg whites
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Black food coloring
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for filling)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, sift together almond flour and powdered sugar.
- In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until foamy, then add cream of tartar and gradually add granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Fold the almond flour mixture into the egg whites gently.
- Add vanilla extract and black food coloring, mixing until combined.
- Pipe the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet in ghost shapes.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, then let cool completely.
- For the filling, beat softened butter with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until creamy.
- Pipe the filling onto half of the macaron shells and sandwich with the other half.
- Decorate with additional black food coloring to create ghost faces.
Notes
- Ensure egg whites are at room temperature for better volume.
- Let the macarons rest for 30 minutes before baking to develop a skin.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
