Description
A delightful bread combining the airy texture of sourdough with the heartiness of oats, flavored with honey for a touch of sweetness.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, and rolled oats in a large mixing bowl. Stir thoroughly.
- Whisk together the warm water, honey, and sourdough starter in a separate bowl until integrated. Pour into the dry ingredients along with the salt and olive oil.
- Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until it comes together into a shaggy dough. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 10-15 minutes.
- Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 4-6 hours.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover the dough again and allow it to rise for 2-3 more hours until it reaches the edge of the pan.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Remove from the oven, let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool before slicing.
Notes
For a sweeter flavor, reduce honey to 2 tablespoons. Customize by adding seeds or dried fruit for extra nutrition.
