A tantalizing dish of crispy chicken enveloped in a spicy, sweet sauce, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts or Thighs
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 piece Egg White
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • Vegetable Oil (for frying)
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
  • 2 tablespoons Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, minced
  • 23 Dried Red Chilies or Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1/2 cup Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Garlic Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar or Honey
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • Sliced Green Onions (for garnish)
  • Toasted Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
  • Thin Strips of Fried Onion or Bell Pepper (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces. In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken, cornstarch, egg white, salt, and black pepper. Toss until well-coated and set aside for at least 20 minutes.
  2. Heat the Oils: Place a wok over medium-high heat. Add vegetable oil and sesame oil when hot.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Add marinated chicken in batches and fry for 4–5 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Prepare the Sauce: In a separate bowl, mix garlic, ginger, dried chilies, ketchup, soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, vinegar, sugar, and water.
  5. Combine and Stir-Fry: Remove excess oil from the pan, add the sauce mixture, simmer, then add fried chicken. Toss to coat.
  6. Finishing Touches: Remove from heat and sprinkle with green onions, sesame seeds, and fried onions or bell peppers.

Notes

Feel free to adjust spice levels and ingredients as per your preference. Marinating the chicken longer enhances flavors.
