These Mini Chili Football Bread Bowls are a delightful combination of crispy, golden-brown bread and a rich, savory chili filling. Each bite offers a satisfying crunch followed by the warm, hearty flavors of seasoned meat, beans, and spices, making them perfect for game day or any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Bread Bowls:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 3/4 cup warm water (110°F)
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • For the Chili Filling:
    • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
    • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
    • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
    • 1 small onion, diced
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 tablespoons chili powder
    • 1 teaspoon cumin
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, and salt. Gradually add warm water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. While the dough rises, prepare the chili: In a large skillet, sauté onion and garlic until translucent. Add ground meat and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in kidney beans, diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a small bowl by pressing it into a muffin tin.
  7. Bake the bread bowls for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Fill each bread bowl with the prepared chili and serve hot.

Notes

  • Make-ahead: The chili can be prepared a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Reheat before serving.
  • Storage: Leftover bread bowls can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven to restore crispness.
  • Substitutions: Use ground chicken or a plant-based meat alternative for a lighter option.
