Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare your cake pans by greasing and flouring two 9-inch round pans.
- Whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla.
- Combine the dry ingredients with the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk.
- Distribute the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
- Make the frosting by beating together cream cheese and butter, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla.
- Assemble the cake by spreading frosting between the layers and on the top and sides.
- Slice and serve with your favorite beverages.
Notes
Feel free to substitute buttermilk with regular milk or add vinegar to whole milk. For a fun twist, mix in nuts or raisins.
