  • Yield: 4 servings
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

These Potato Cheese Sticks are a delightful combination of crispy golden exterior and a gooey, cheesy interior. Each bite offers a satisfying crunch followed by a creamy, savory explosion that will leave you craving more.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes: 4 medium-sized, peeled and cut into sticks
  • Cheese: 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Flour: 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • Eggs: 2 large, beaten
  • Breadcrumbs: 1 cup, preferably panko for extra crunch
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon
  • Pepper: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Oil: for frying (vegetable or canola)

Instructions

  1. Begin by boiling the potato sticks in salted water for about 5-7 minutes until slightly tender but not fully cooked. Drain and let cool.
  2. Set up a breading station: Place flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with salt and pepper in a third.
  3. Coat each potato stick in flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally roll in the breadcrumb mixture until fully covered.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping in a breadcrumb; it should sizzle immediately.
  5. Fry the potato cheese sticks in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  6. Remove from oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Make-ahead: You can prepare the potato sticks up to the breading stage and refrigerate them for up to 24 hours before frying.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best results.
  • Substitutions: Use cheddar or pepper jack cheese for a different flavor profile.
