Description

A decadent Red Velvet Oreo Layer Cake that combines the rich flavors of red velvet with the creamy goodness of Oreo cookies.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Additional Oreo cookies for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in the baking soda and vinegar, then fold in the crushed Oreo cookies.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. For the frosting, beat together the cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  10. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until creamy.
  11. Once the cakes are cool, frost the top of one layer, add the second layer, and repeat. Frost the top and sides of the cake.
  12. Decorate with additional Oreo cookies on top.
