Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your baking pan.
- Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and spices in a large mixing bowl.
- Whisk together the light brown sugar, oil, buttermilk, applesauce, molasses, eggs, and vanilla in another bowl until smooth.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
- Pour the batter into your prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until creamy.
- Gradually add in the sifted confectioners’ sugar until well combined.
- Frost the cooled cake generously with the cream cheese frosting.
