- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 tbsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 3 large Eggs
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 cup Whole Milk
- ½ cup Sugar (for Custard)
- 2 tbsp Cornstarch
- 4 large Egg Yolks
- 2 cups Fresh Strawberries
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl and set aside.
- Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Incorporate the eggs and vanilla, mixing well after each addition.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the mixture until just combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and milk for the custard in a saucepan until smooth.
- Heat the custard mixture over medium heat until thickened, then remove from heat.
- Beat the egg yolks in a separate bowl, temper with the hot milk mixture, and then combine back with the custard.
- Layer the cooled cake with custard and strawberry slices.
- Top with remaining custard and additional strawberries for serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Can be frozen for longer storage.
