- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup apple butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup raisins or nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Combine the warm milk, melted butter, and egg in another bowl, whisking until smooth.
- Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and allow to rise for about 1 hour until doubled.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick and spread apple butter on top.
- Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar over the apple butter, adding optional raisins or nuts.
- Roll the dough tightly from one long edge to create a log.
- Cut the log into equal sections and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.
Notes
For make-ahead options, prepare the dough the night before and let it rise in the fridge. You can also freeze the rolls for longer storage.
