Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup apple butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup raisins or nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  2. Combine the warm milk, melted butter, and egg in another bowl, whisking until smooth.
  3. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and allow to rise for about 1 hour until doubled.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick and spread apple butter on top.
  8. Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar over the apple butter, adding optional raisins or nuts.
  9. Roll the dough tightly from one long edge to create a log.
  10. Cut the log into equal sections and place them in a greased baking dish.
  11. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

For make-ahead options, prepare the dough the night before and let it rise in the fridge. You can also freeze the rolls for longer storage.
