Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
- 8 oz pasta (like penne or rotini)
- 2 cups shredded cheese (like mozzarella or cheddar)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for cooking
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente; drain and set aside.
- Sauté the diced onion in olive oil until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Brown the ground beef, seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Stir in the marinara sauce and simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Combine the cooked pasta and meat sauce in a large mixing bowl.
- Layer half of the pasta mixture into a baking dish and sprinkle with half the cheese.
- Add the remaining pasta on top, followed by the rest of the cheese.
- Bake covered with foil for 20 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For added nutrition, mix in vegetables like spinach or zucchini. This casserole can be prepared a day in advance as well.
