Description

A rich and indulgent Baked Pecan French Toast that combines custardy bread with crunchy pecans and sweet maple syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread (such as challah or French bread)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup pecans (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • Butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your baking dish with butter.
  2. Tear the bread into bite-sized pieces and place them in the greased dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, pressing down gently to absorb the custard.
  5. Sprinkle the chopped pecans on top.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour or overnight.
  7. Bake for approximately 45 minutes, or until puffy and golden brown.
  8. Drizzle warm maple syrup over the top before serving.

Notes

For best results, prepare the night before and refrigerate. Using slightly stale bread helps it absorb the custard without getting soggy.
