  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. Mix together the sourdough starter, all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, sugar, milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Whisk together the baking soda, baking powder, and salt, then gradually add this dry mix to the wet ingredients.
  4. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Fill each muffin cup about two-thirds full with the batter.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For make-ahead tips, you can prepare the batter the night before and store it in the refrigerator. You can also use gluten-free flour or substitute eggs with flax eggs if needed.
