- 2–3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat and add the onions.
- Stir occasionally until the onions caramelize, about 15-20 minutes.
- Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper and place them in a baking dish.
- Pour the caramelized onions over the chicken, covering them well.
- Add the beef broth around the chicken.
- Sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese over the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Serve hot with your favorite sides.
Notes
Consider using chicken thighs for extra juiciness or vegetable broth for a lighter version. Prepare caramelized onions ahead of time for convenience.
