Description

Delight in the nostalgia of freshly baked hot dog buns, featuring a balanced sweetness and soft texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, yeast, and honey in a mixing bowl. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add olive oil, salt, and flour, stirring until it forms a soft dough.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, divide it into 10–12 portions, and shape each into a bun.
  6. Arrange the buns on a baking tray, cover, and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Brush with melted butter immediately after baking.

Notes

For a make-ahead option, freeze shaped buns after the first rise and thaw before baking. You can also customize with sesame or poppy seeds.
