Description

Shrimp and Grits is a classic Southern dish that combines creamy grits with succulent shrimp, often flavored with spices and served with a savory sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a pot, bring water to a boil and add grits. Cook according to package instructions until creamy.
  2. In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
  3. Add garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1 minute.
  4. Add shrimp, chicken broth, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Cook until shrimp are pink and cooked through.
  5. Serve the shrimp mixture over the creamy grits and top with crispy bacon and green onions.

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, increase the amount of cayenne pepper.
  • Feel free to add other seasonings like paprika or Old Bay for extra flavor.
  • Grits can be made ahead of time and reheated before serving.
