Description
A comforting Southern side dish featuring fresh green beans and crispy bacon, simmered with garlic and onion for a deliciously savory experience.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound of fresh green beans, trimmed
- 4 slices of bacon, chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 cup of chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
Instructions
- Cook the chopped bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 5–7 minutes. Remove bacon from skillet, leaving drippings.
- Add olive oil to the skillet, then toss in diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until onion is translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
- Toss in the trimmed green beans, stirring to coat them in the bacon drippings and olive oil.
- Pour in the chicken broth and season with salt, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Cover and simmer on low for about 25–30 minutes.
- Stir in the reserved bacon pieces just before serving. Serve warm.
Notes
This dish can be made vegetarian by swapping bacon for smoked tempeh or mushrooms. Great serve with grilled chicken or pork chops.
